Urban Informer Quickies: News, & Music


Word is Beyonce is looking to leverage the box-office success of Obsessed into another staring role -- as "She Hulk" in the upcoming movie The Avengers. According to MediaTakeout-dot-com, B's team is lobbying hard. A source says, "[Beyonce's people] have already had meetings with [Paramount Pictures], it's still early. But so far, it looks promising." The flick is slated to hit theaters in 2012.




A lawsuit accusing bad-girl rapper Foxy Brown of smashing a Brooklyn woman in the head with her Blackberry has been dismissed, her lawyer said yesterday (April 29). Justice Robert Miller in Brooklyn Supreme Court ruled Monday that the rapper, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was never served with legal papers.



Marvel Studios is defending itself against an attack last week by Terrence Howard, who was iced out of reprising his Jim Rhodes role in "Iron Man 2" and replaced by Don Cheadle. Howard said the studio made a "very, very bad choice" by not allowing him to return. But a studio rep told Page Six, "Marvel did not have a contractual obligation to use Mr. Howard. We merely had an option which we chose not to exercise."




Lil Wayne has managed to take the number 12 spot on Time magazine’s “World’s Most Influential Person” list. As Time’s 12th most influential person, Lil Wayne beat out both Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey who clenched the 37th and 98th spot on the list.Other music artists and innovators to make it onto Time’s list include rapper M.I.A., Prince, the Twitter inventors, and Kanye West.



It’s been no secret that CD sales continue to decline in our current market. While online retailers like iTunes hold a comfortable position in consumer purchases, physical retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy are attempting to figure out new ways to offset decreased sales. With that said, Best Buy is planning on bringing back vinyl records to their shelves. (Kels Sidebar: Why? Let me know how that works, lol).




R&B star Ashanti will ease on down the road to her first theater role this summer in a New York-staged revival of "The Wiz." The production officially opens June 18. (Kels Sidebar: This was tooooo easy. Now they haven't said what character she will play. I'm assuming the Lion because she definitely has the facial hair.)
