Nas To Be Named The Next President At Def Jam?

After rumors surfaced that Nas was offered the President spot over at Def Jam, the truth is finally out!

During a recent TVBlog, Nas talks about the offer.

"Yes and no," Nas said about being offered the presidency. "I don't know what's in store for the future. I'm happy to do whatever makes sense. I would love to add on and help hip-hop, I feel Def Jam is a great label for hip-hop music but I feel they could be doing a lot more for hip-hop, that's what it's about. Obviously people they have, have their own agendas and own direction and I respect that too. I think I can add on but I don't know, at this point and time, I'm just taking it day-by-day, I'm not getting too caught up into all of that."

In related news, Nas said that he is scared to put out any new music at this time!

Speaking at the Orange Rock Corps event in London Nas revealed:

“This is a record that right now I’m scared of making y’know cos, I don’t know what’s gonna happen as far as I don’t know what I’m gonna say. I feel like I’ve put so much of my personal life out there. I feel like I’m one of the guys you don’t really hear about him on paparazzi/fan magazines all the time. But (now) I just feel like my life is so much out there that it’s kinda like, man, I don’t even know how to put it in words how I feel about putting this record together. I’m a little nervous to tell you the truth, that’s all I can say.”

Asked directly if he was nervous about his personal life being publicised the rapper said:

“Yeah a little bit of that and a little bit of I wanna do so well, I don’t wanna let people down and I definitely want to put out something that is true to me. Maybe people think I’m tripping out, but it’s not the case, I really have to be in the right head space so hopefully I’ll get it done and it’ll come out soon.”

Hamburgerlar's Def Jam's Newest EVP?

Well that explains it all...No wonder Def Jam is going to hell with gasoline draws! Who bright idea was it to make Dream the new EVP over at Def Jam? Someone get La Reid and Steve Bartels on the phone NOW!

According to his twitter page, he is now the new Executive Vice President of Island Records:

I wonder how soon it is before Christina Milian is back at Def Jam! Who said he was a good picker of talent? I mean, Elektric Red are talented, but have we seem them taking over the charts-Not So Much (and thats no shade). He wasn't a great singer, but a BEAST at writing and producing. Stay In Your Lane!

Oh, and speaking of Blueprint 3-can we say Def Jam is Shaaddyyyyyy (and I'm not talking about Slim).

Def Jam will re-issue Jay-Z's first two albums, The Blueprint and The Blueprint Two: The Gift and the Curse as a box set called The Blueprint Collector's Edition. Similar to the Mariah Carey collector's set announced earlier this month, Hova's edition will be packaged in a collectible slipcase with a poster, and there will be space to insert a third C-D. The Blueprint Collector's Edition arrives September 8th, three days before the release of The Blueprint Three.

LA Reid Not Sure Of Amerie's Future On Def Jam???

I said it, Amerie might as well keep those pretty legs up in Europe. Not recently signing to Def Jam, the former Columbia Records artist' future at Def Jam, not so certain.

As Amerie readies the release of her Def Jam debut 'In Love & War' (due August), it has been revealed in a new Billboard article about the project that the label's head LA Reid was about to drop her just last month! Check out the report below:

After a two-year hiatus, singer/songwriter Amerie has announced the release of her Def Jam debut, "In Love & War," which will be available in August. The lead single, "Why R U," will be serviced June 15th, with an accompanying video directed by Ray Kay (The-Dream, Lady Gaga) premiering June 8th on BET.

Producers on the album include Teddy Riley, Sean Garrett, Eric Hudson, Jim Jonsin, Rico Love and The Buchanans, who helmed the first single -- the track that allegedly made Def Jam labelhead Antonio "L.A." Reid reconsider dropping Amerie from the label just last month. So far, no collaborations have been announced.

Amerie might wanna ask Janet Jackson,Jermaine Dupri, and Shakir Stewart (may he R.I.P) how things happen when LA Reid don't get what he wants.

Jay-Z's move to Sony's Epic Records has reportedly been confirmed and is in the final stages of negotiations.

The blockbuster deal would also bring Jigga's Roc Nation to the iconic record label which is also home to his wife, Beyonce.

Jay-Z is close to signing a deal that will bring his future recordings to Sony, Billboard sources confirm. The deal -- which will link Jay-Z's Roc Nation releases with Sony's Epic Records for distribution -- "is 95% complete" according to people familiar with the ongoing negotiations. A formal announcement is expected in the coming weeks.

Jay-Z has confirmed reports which claimed he has purchased the remainder of his business contract with Def Jam Records, including his unreleased Blueprint 3 album obligation.

Jigga kept details to a minimum, however, he did say a conversation with Def Jam executives has already taken place.

"I can honestly say, working with Doug Morris and LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely," Jay said in an interview. "I've been in the family for almost my entire career. Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique 'negotiations' ever. Doug won the toss but, we both won in the end...I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own or are given the opportunity to own all of their music"

I'm convinced that some things are going on up there at Def Jam. You have Jay buying out his contract, Russell Simmons on Twitter talking about he's suing a label he help build. He said "they tryna take my lunch". Hmmm, i wonder if all of this is linked. He worried about Def Jam tryna eat his lunch, somebody tell him Jay just brought the cafeteria. PAYOW!

LL Cool J: "I Didn't Want To Be 51 Cent

Preparing for his final album release, Exit 13, legendary rapper LL Cool J sat down with SOHH to talk about fellow Queens, NY superstar 50 Cent’s impact on the project, difficulty in deciding which records to use and admitting he “didn’t want to be 51 Cent.”

LL cleared up initial rumors about his last Def Jam release being exclusively produced by the G-Unit leader but did admit they recorded an entire album’s worth of music.

“50 is not executive producing the whole album be we did a whole album together and I used like four or five songs,” he told SOHH. “I didn’t want to be ‘51 Cent.’ I want to make sure that I was giving them L. God knows that last thing I needed to do is wait ‘til my 13th album and play son-son and all that.”

Promising the decision to trim his selection down to single digits from the multi-platinum selling rapper was based on artistic purposes; the G.O.A.T. confessed his selections were carefully chosen.

“I love my man, he’s extremely talented and the music that we worked on together was hot,” he explained. “It’s just I made sure that I selected records that I felt had my voice and spoke from my heart.”

Continuing to give 50 props for his dedication to the project, LL detailed the coaching he received from him.

“I’m in there with 50 and I’m watching him and he’s writing choruses and giving me ideas for songs and telling me I should rap like this,” he added. “We sitting in there and I’m writing and he’s telling me, ‘Yo you should say it like this’.” LL went on to say that the process “was a lot of fun” and concluded by confessing 50 “got me amped up and you know once I get a battery in my back I go crazy.”

Exit 13 is currently scheduled to hit stores September 9th on Def Jam Records.

Disturbing Tha Peace Enters Into Deal With Def JamSlava Kuperstein

Ludacris-founded imprint Disturbing Tha Peace Records effectively put to rest any rumors of being dropped when it inked a new long term deal with parent company Island Def Jam.
"The Atlanta hip-hop scene and the Dirty South movement in general owe more than they can ever repay to Chris," said Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid in a statement. "Our friendship stretches back more than a decade and I never cease to be amazed at his imagination, creativity, and most of all his outrageous sense of humor.
"Now, changing business conditions necessitate that we review our respective rosters and focus to ensure that future opportunities and challenges are aggressively achieved. Ludacris has built Disturbing Tha Peace into one of the iconic names in hip-hop, one that will remain an important part of the Island Def Jam family."
Currently, the DTP roster includes Shareefa, Bobby Valentino, Serius Jones, among others.
